Last weekend I headed off to the Brisbane chapter of the Finders Keepers Markets and had an absolute ball! My studio mate Sunday helped me out too, and together we sold my hand made badges, accessories, lucky dips and more! It was so wonderful to get to connect with so many awesome people within the making community and also meet some internet pals IRL (which is always just such a treat).
In addition to a tinsel backdrop (I can never resist) I made the rest of my market stall out of up-cycled trash! I created a candy heart out of chicken wire and newspaper from Reverse Garbage (this awesome store in Brisbane that sells rubbish/second hand items/all sorts of goodies) and also made my accessory stands out of paper mached trash pieces. The big stand for my wall charms had to be my finest work - I spotted some pool noodles a neighbour had thrown out for kerbside collection and whipped them up into an abstract sculpture which perfectly dangled my tinsel charms. I found the process of creating my stall to be super fun and inspiring…I’ll literally never be looking at rubbish the same way again…it’s all just waiting to be repurposed and reimagined into something SPLENDID!
The market was a pretty epic undertaking but it really was THAT much fun - I think I have to do it again. I’m wondering if maybe the Christmas markets might be a fun time to make a return? Let’s see how we go!
