“BACKYARD BLISS” explored the mundanity and charm of Brisbane’s suburban streetscapes. Recognising how essential backyard and outdoor spaces are to the city’s identity, I created Backyard Bliss as my own Brisbane-inspired dream world. Magic encases and obliterates everyday items and wearable artworks through my hand-crafted adorning, a technique which I call “swamping”.

Using nostalgic materials and saturated colour, I imagine my own version of the colour, sunshine, sparkle and whimsy that Brisbane’s tourist posters promise but perhaps don’t always deliver.
