WEARABLE ART
2011 - ONGOING
Burke’s wearable art re-imagines the mundanity of old garments and the unconventional through a process of up cycling and elaborate ornamentation. All pieces are created by Rachel Burke in her Brisbane studio.
Using nostalgic, colourful materials centred in craft and play, these works serve as ‘portals’ for personal introspection and transcendence, highlighting the complicated tenderness and frailty of memory. Many of Burke’s wearable art creations have been exhibited in national galleries and museums or worn by celebrity clients to create unforgettably iconic moments.
